PIKIRAN RAKYAT - Honourable Council of Election Organisers (DKPP) sentenced Hasyim Asy'ari, the Chairman of the Election Commission (KPU), to dismissal. Hasyim's dismissal was related to a complaint of immoral behavior reported by a woman member of the overseas election committee (PPLN) in the 2024 elections.

"Grant the complainant's complaint in its entirety. Impose a sanction of permanent dismissal to the suspect Hasyim Asy'ari as Chairman of the KPU for the 2022-2027 Period as of the date this Decision is read," said DKPP Chairman Heddy Lukito when reading out the decision at the DKPP Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, 3 July 2024.

Heddy stated that Hasyim Asy'ari, the suspect, was proven to have violated the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct for Election Organisers.

DKPP asked President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to implement the verdict within seven days of its reading. In addition, DKPP asked the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to oversee the implementation of the decision.

"The President of the Republic of Indonesia is to implement this decision no later than seven days after this decision is read out. Order the General Election Supervisory Agency to oversee the implementation of this decision," said Heddy. 

On the other hand, the Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU), Hasyim Asy'ari, admitted that he was relieved and grateful after being fired from his position after the immoral case against him.

He feels liberated from carrying out a significant mandate so far. The Election Organiser Honour Council (DKPP) has decided to remove Hasyim Asy'ari from office after being found guilty of committing immoral acts against a 2024 Election Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) member.

In his press conference after the DKPP's decision, Hasyim said he accepted his dismissal gracefully and expressed gratitude and relief. 

"I say thank God, and I thank the DKPP for relieving me of my heavy duties as a member of the KPU that organizes elections," said Hasyim at the KPU RI Office, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, 3 July 2024. 

In addition, Hasyim apologized—not specifically to the immoral victims he harmed but to the journalists who had accompanied him on his work at the KPU.
