PIKIRAN RAKYAT - President Joko Widodo has yet to carry out the concrete process of relocating the capital city from Jakarta to the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan. He appalled to all parties to not force something that has not been completed.
This statement serves as a response to the news that the presidential decree regarding the relocation of the capital city has not been signed. Jokowi ensured that the presidential decree could not be ratified in the near future.
In fact, Jokowi said that the regulation could be signed by Prabowo Subianto, after his inauguration as the elected President in October 2024.
"The presidential decree could be before, or after October. We will see the situation on the ground," said Jokowi, at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, on Monday, July 8, 2024.
Jokowi further stated that his party did not want to force something when it is not ready to be used yet. For him, the presidential decree on the relocation of the capital city must be in line with the progress of infrastructure in the IKN.
“We don't want to force something, something that hasn't happened yet shouldn't be forced. We have to see the progress in the field," he said.
Jokowi's term of office will end in October 2024. After that, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka will be inaugurated as President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia.
Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono, claims that the core area in the Indonesian Capital City (IKN), East Kalimantan, will be completed in mid-July 2024. Basuki said that 82 percent of the construction has even been completed.
After giving instructions to the 2024 UGM KKN-PPM students at the UGM Hall in Yogyakarta on Friday 28 June 2024, Basuki made a number of statements to journalists about the progress of infrastructure in the IKN.
He said that the construction of the Presidential Palace and several government buildings would be completed and ready for use soon, by July 2024. The government buildings will include state civil servant houses in the form of towers.
"The palace, the presidential office, the offices of coordinating ministers, the official residences of ministers, the state civil servant houses, 12 towers, insyaAllah, will be completed by July," said Minister Basuki, as quoted by Antara on Saturday, 29 June 2024.
"Later on 20 July, we will all see the results. For now, the solution is 82 percent," he said again. On the other hand, regarding the process of transferring state civil servants to the IKN, Basuki assured that everything would be done in stages starting from August 2024.
"Because in August the facilities will be used for the Indonesian independence ceremony. It (the move) has to be gradual because it is very much in line with the accessibility of the infrastructure," he said.***(Politeknik Negeri Bandung/Yeurley Arba Nabila)
